We left Hat Creek this morning and headed towards Burney. Along the way we stopped at the Old Station Ranger to dump our tanks and fill up with water. Once in Burney, I resupplied our groceries while Kathy did the laundry at a local laundromat. Once all of the chores were done, we headed up Hwy 299 about 16 miles to a BLM campground call Pit River. It's a pretty cool little campground at the base of a hydro electric power station. There are only 8 sites total. The site we picked was big enough for us and Tim and Melinda. We talked to the campground host for a while, and learned that he just moved up here this year from Santa Rosa. He also drives around on a moped with a ferret in his backpack. Quite the character. There is an incredible swimming hole, being fed by the Pit river. Mia, Kathy and Oreo went for a swim. The water was very cold, but they enjoyed it. Tim and I tried or luck at fishing. No luck there. There is a nasty heat wave headed our way, so we are off towards the Oregon coast tomorrow.
