Cape Cod and more Boston

Aug 31st

Today was a maintenance day. I did some grocery shopping while Kathy did laundry. We hung out at our campsite playing games and reading. Not much to write about.

Sept 1st

We are going to Cape Cod today. Its 81 miles to the Cape Cod National Seashore from where we are staying. We stopped in Yarmouth and had lunch at The Captain, which had really good ratings for its clam chowder. It’s a cool little place along the shores of Cape Cod with balcony seating on the second floor, so you can enjoy the ocean view as you eat. We had to try their “Fried Clam Chowdah” because it was featured on the Food Network. Its clam chowder thickened to a paste and then breaded and fried. We also got clam “chowdah”, fish and chips, and fish tacos. It was all so good. After lunch we continued on to the National Seashore. Mia received another stamp for her National Parks Passport, and we got in for free because she has her parks pass. We drove to Nauset Light Beach to play in the water. There was a lifeguard with big warning flags for great white sharks. They feed on the seals, which are everywhere, and the sharks have been spotted almost every day. No swimming today! The beach is gorgeous and extends as far as you can see. We played in the surf and then walked down the beach for about a mile. Cape Cod is known for having a lot of ice cream stands, so we had to find one on our way home. We found one in Orleans with good ratings. The ice cream was good, but expensive. On our drive home, the skies got darker and darker. The remains of Hurricane Ida were bearing down on us. Can you believe that we are have been hit by the remains of two hurricanes? We got to the trailer and battened down the hatches for the night.

Sept 2nd

It poured last night. I woke early in morning, to thunder, lightning and the most intense rain. The rain went on for hours. I started to worry that the campground would flood. By the time the sun came up the rain had stopped. There is a lot of standing water, but no flooding near us. It is Bridget’s move-in day. We made sure that the subway lines were open. Only one line was closed due to flooding, and it wasn’t one we needed. We left Oreo in the trailer again. We packed up Bridget and got on the Subway. One of the stops is across the street from where she is living. After a brief check-in, we went up to her room on the 25th floor of the Westin Hotel. Her room has the most amazing view of Boston and the Charles River. We unpacked some of her stuff, and then we went to find lunch. From lunch we walked Northeastern, where Bridget had a scheduled COVID test. After her test we walked back to the Westin and met her roommate, Sophia. Sophia’s parents and siblings were there too. Very nice people. After a long goodbye, we took the train home. We will see Bridget again before we leave the area. Oreo was very happy to see us when we got back.
