We drove to our next stop, Three Rivers State Park, in the Florida panhandle. Today was the first time we have seen real hills since we have been in Florida. Our campsite backs right up to Lake Seminole. We were warned once again, not to let our dogs or children wander near the shoreline. It is surprisingly cold tonight. I can imagine it being very hot and muggy here in the summertime.

We went on a hike in the park today. The park is fairly large and there are many trails. At one of the trail heads, we learned, that this park used to have an extremely dense forest, but 3 years ago the Hurricane that came through wiped out 80% of the trees. The clean up is ongoing. There are piles of cut trees throughout the trails. During the hike we met a woman who had an Australian shepherd. Oreo and Mitch were instant friends. We talked for a few minutes and went our separate ways. A few miles into our hike, we crossed the road by the ranger station. As we crossed a white suburban pulled up next to us, and the woman we met on the trail, got out and came running over to us. She seemed a little frantic. She said she was glad she found us because when she got back to her car, her dog Mitch, had ticks all over him. She said she had pulled over twenty of them off of the dog. She wanted to make sure that we checked Oreo. Ugh, I hate ticks. Mosquitos and no-see-ums are one thing, but ticks are the worst. Once we got back to our trailer, Kathy brushed Oreo. We only found two ticks on him. Then the rest of us took showers.

We drove a lot longer than normal today, so we could get to New Orleans. This was the first time that we had been in four states in one day. We left Florida, drove through Alabama and Mississippi, and stopped in Louisiana. The French Quarter RV Resort, where we are staying, is four blocks from the French Quarter. The RV park is very nice for being right in the middle of a big city. It is also very secure. There is a cinder block fence around it, with razor wire on top, and security guards 24/7. All of this, because it is not in the best of neighborhoods. The biggest problem with the park is its proximity to interstate 10. Most of the time the highway noise is just a drone that doesn’t bother you, but every ten minutes, there is an emergency vehicle with sirens blaring, and it is loud. Once we had set up, Mia wanted to go to the pool. The pool area is a gorgeous little oasis surrounded by walls and palm trees to cut out the traffic noise. There is a pool, hot tub, chez lounges, and a bar (not stocked). Tonight we watched Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, which takes place in New Orleans, and Mia got very excited to try some of the food.
