Sept 6th
Everyone was tired from our Boston excursions and we all rested today. We did organize Mia’s school work and start on it. Not much else occurred.
Sept 7th
Mia had to take assessment testing for math and language arts today, so the school can see where she might need help during the year. Kathleen and Melinda went to so laundry. They found a laundromat near the beach, and hung out by the water while the clothes were washing. There was also a restaurant close by that had good fish and chips. I performed some repairs to the trailer. We received Mia’s test back in the afternoon, and she is right on par for math, and way ahead in her reading skills. Tonight, the woman who is camped across form us had a psychotic breakdown. She was screaming and cursing at people that weren’t there. The ranger received several calls from other campers, and came to check on her. Once he left, and the park office closed she continued. She would yell, then cry, then howl. It was a long night.

We are parting ways with Tim and Melinda again. We are going to try to get into Canada this week and will meet up with them again after that. I found an RV park near Schenectady, NY, and I have scheduled COVID tests for the 3 of us at a local CVS. On the way to Schenectady, we happened to pass by Walden Pond. Kathy had read Henri David Thoreau’s Walden, and that was part of her reasoning for this trip. We had to stop and see it. The pond and surrounding forests are now a state park, with a book store, hiking trails and swimming beaches. At the visitor’s center, we watched a short movie about Thoreau, then we hiked around the lake. Where his cabin once stood, people had stacked small stones. There is now a great pile of them. It has become a tradition to bring a stone as tribute when making a “pilgrimage” to his former cabin or grave. Thoreau is an icon to environmentalists, minimalists and humanists. We ate lunch in the park and then continued our drive. The rv park is very clean and sits right on the Mohawk River.
