More Wisconsin and into Michigan

July 28th

We took one last swim in Lake Michigan before heading out this morning. Tim and Melinda are heading back to Beloit, Wi, for a family matter, and we are heading to Plymouth Rock Camping Resort near Sheboygan (I just like saying that name). Kathy chose the spot because it had good cell reception, and she needed to work for a couple of days. It turned out to be a real resort, with hundreds of RVs, some full time. There are 3 pools, 2 playgrounds, basketball courts, mini golf course and more. Everyone drives around in electric golf carts. Definitely not our style. While Kathy worked, Mia and I went shopping.

July 29th

Kathy worked again today. I drove to Sheboygan to refill our propane, and in the afternoon Mia and spent a few hours at one of the resort pools. There are wild cottontail rabbits running everywhere in the resort. Tonight, they had an outdoor movie, Ghostbusters, and Mia and Kathy went to watch.

July 30th

I found a Harvest Host for tonight in Michigan. On the way, we stopped at Cabela’s to get a screen room so we could sit outside without being eating by bugs. It so happens that Cabela’s is on Lombardi way in Green Bay, two blocks from Lambeau Field. I wanted to walk down and see it, but Kathy insisted on driving, because she wanted a picture of our “house” in front of the stadium. We were able to just pull into the parking lot and park next to it. As we were taking pictures a few people approached us, and asked if we drove all the way from California just to see this. They also told us that the Atrium is open to the public and was free to go in and walk around. So we did. How many stadiums allow you to just come into the parking lot, and then enter for free? It was a very cool experience, even for a Cowboys fan.

Sweet Spigot, our Harvest Host for the evening, is a maple syrup farm. Deb, from Sweet Spigot, gave us directions via text, because she said the GPS probably wouldn’t get us there. Down County road 551, once you cross the bridge turn into the third driveway on your left, then turn on your second right. She was correct, our GPS couldn’t find it. We are out in the middle of nowhere Michigan, in dense forests. As we were driving down this narrow dirt road, we came upon a truck coming the other way. A young man got out and approached us. It turns out that he is Deb’s son Dustin, and he showed us how to get into their place. The farm is amazing! Acres of neatly mowed grass, organic vegetable garden, multiple wedding venue sites and trees everywhere. Dustin told us about the walking trails, and invited us to take anything we needed from the garden. He left, and we took one of the trails through the maple forest. Another camper showed up. They were driving a silver Ram 3500, just like ours. They were pulling a Jayco Eagle 5th wheel, just like ours. They had California license plates just like ours. Coincidence or glitch in the Matrix? The other trailer contained a mother with her 4 children, ages 14, 10, 4, 2. They have been full timing for over a year. The husband is a merchant marine and is out at sea, so the wife is doing it by herself. Mia and the 10 year old, girl played all day. They even told us to let Oreo roam free, and he was in heaven. We stayed up kind of late, because the sun never seemed to go down.

July 31st

We woke late, and Dustin gave us a tour of the maple syrup facilities. We bought several bottles of their syrup. We left about 2pm and headed to JW Wells State Park. We arrived at the park to find wall to wall humanity. The campground was set up so that they can pack as many people into it as possible, and this is a Saturday night. We rode ours bikes to the swimming beach. We are technically on Green Bay, and the water is fairly green.

Aug 1st

We took our bikes on the trails today. Mia did great, and she got ice cream as a reward for riding the 5 miles. Tim and Melinda showed up this evening. We have made plans to return to Sweet Spigot Farms tomorrow.
