Sweet Spigot Farms again.

Aug 2nd

We stopped in Escanaba to replenish groceries. I had heard that when you are in the UP, you have to eat pasties (pass-ties). Melinda found the spot with the best reviews, and we all went for lunch. They are pastries filled with meats and vegetables. Mia got a pizza pastie. They were delicious. Then Back to Sweet Spigot Farms. This place is so peaceful and relaxing. We did buy more syrup. Guess what everyone is getting for gifts? Dustin gave Melinda and Tim a tour of the facility. I failed to mention in the blog last time, that this farm is self-sustaining. All of the lumber used to build the barns and houses, was from the farm. The cut and mill their own lumber. All of the heat for the barns and syrup shack is done through a furnace shack, that pumps hot water into the foundations of the buildings. The furnace uses wood from the farm. They have a seemingly endless supply of wood.

The owners of the syrup farm are letting us stay another night at no charge. We offered to exchange for labor, but they would not take that either. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I shaved today. We walked around the property again today. We have seen deer and an Eagle. Dustin is an avid disc golfer, and he has set up a two-hole course on the grounds. We all played several rounds throughout the day.
