Yuma and Saguaro NP

Feb 16th

After school this morning, Kathleen and I decided to hike around the reservoir. Mia stayed behind to play with Sequoia and family. It took us about 2 hours, and was just over 5 miles. We did get to see a pair of wild donkeys along the way. Margie and Shannon took the girls on a geocaching hunt. We had a campfire after dinner, right beside the lake, and the two girls and I took some interesting night photos.

All of us took a short hike to Imperial Reservoir, which is right next to us, and is a beautiful oasis. It is on the other side of the dam from us, and it is a lush green valley with palm trees. The water was so clear, we could see large schools of fish everywhere. We had another fire by the lake.

There was very little wind today, and each of us spent a while kayaking around the lake. A lot of people started showing up this evening, but we had our little beach campsite to ourselves. We had another fire tonight, and Sequoia spent the night with Mia.

After breakfast, we packed up and headed out. We drove to a BLM site that we had stayed at last year, outside of Tucson, AZ. It is a beautiful spot and we are surrounded by saguaro cacti. The Canadians showed up shortly after we arrived. Margie and Shannon invited Mia over to their rv to watch a movie, and Kathleen and I had a “date night.” We watched TV (with adult language) while eating pizza and ice cream.

We packed both families into our truck this morning, and drove into Saguaro National Park. Both girls got their packages to complete their junior ranger badge, then we took a hike through the saguaro forest. There is a cold front coming, so we were all enjoying our last days of warmth for the week.
